Is this discontinued module (albeit a GM remanufactured part to start with) found on other car lines? The old price books only show Pontiac for the car line, but not Chevy. But how could you ID it? Or is this an 82 Vette donor item only if you need same?
This was a "toughy" but I think that I've found some useful information. The GM #1225550 ECM is, apparently, discontinued and no supercessive part is available. All GM ECM's are "officially" re-manufactured units. However, sometimes what actually comes in the box is new, and almost always if you get one in the first few years that the part is used. I suppose the theory is that if you get a new unit instead of re-manufactured, you won't complain. Plus, with "remanufactured" you owe them a core (or, pay a stiff core charge for these units).
You're correct in that Pontiac was the only other application that this ECM was used for. If by ID you mean which Pontiac model was it used on, that model was 1982 Firebird. It was also used on 1982 Camaros. The engine option for both used with this controller was LU5. That engine was the optional engine for Z-28 Camaros and the Firebird Trans Am or Formula.
If one has one of these controllers which is inoperable, then the best bet is to have it repaired by a firm that specializes in this work. There are several out there. If one doesn't have one and needs one, the used marketplace is going to be the best bet. GM Sports Salvage in San Jose, CA might be a good place to look for a used example out of a Camaro or Firebird, and possibly, even a Corvette. Pacific Corvette of Puyallup, WA is another source for a used Corvette piece.
