    '81 Vanity mirror

I need to replace either the door (cover) or the entire lighted vanity mirror. Does anyone know of a source for possibly new one? My interior is dark blue. Thanks, Rich...

Have you tried Mr. Goodwrench? Many dealers are in a hurry, only check their inventory and that around town. But, if you ask, they can run National Locator service to see if anybody in the country has one....

        Richard----

The right side sun shade on your 1981 is a two part assembly which includes the illuminated vanity mirror and the sunshade, itself, with each part serviced seperately. The vanity mirror assembly, GM #913399, has been discontinued for many years. This assembly includes the "door"(never serviced seperately)and was supplied for service only in black(paint to match). Try Ecklers for this part. Also, as Jack Humphrey suggests, have your dealer run it on his locater. By giving him the part number, you make the job so easy he'll have a hard time refusing. However, I'll be surprised if he comes up with anything on this one.

In the event that you need the sunshade part of the assembly, there were two designs used for 1981. The first design, GM#14011491, measures 11.7" x 5.1". The second design, GM #14042258, measures 12.4" x 5.5". Both were supplied for service only in black with the instruction "paint to match". Both of these parts are either still available or there are plenty out there in dealer stocks. Your dealer will have no problem locating either one of these. If he does, let me know and I'll tell you where to get one. They list for about $60.

As far as "painting to match", there are interior paints/dyes available from many sources for most Corvette interior colors. The sunshade and mirror assemblies lend themselves very well to painting with the proper paint as they are not subject to constant wear and abrasion. The main problem that you will have is matching them to your undoubtedly somewhat faded interior.
