Ive got a slight oil leak (looks like rear main seal). is this something I can fix? (shade tree Mechanic). what is the prosses. thanks kelly

Dropping the oil pan and rear main crank cap is not that hard to replace the seal. Once the rear main cap is off using a needle nose plier push on the rear seal end as you turn the crank , the use the pliers to pull it out. Then just push the new seal in. Just going for it will give you a good feeling that you can do most repairs yourself and learn and save money.- Top

It's not too difficult of a job. You have to remove the oil pan, oil pump, and rear main bearing cap. The procedure is well-detailed in your 1966 Corvette Factory Service Manual. Make sure that you apply sealant to the areas on either side of the seal as shown in the service manual. This is critical if the seal is to be leak-free.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
