    C2 Headlight Motor Case Finish

The 66 judging manual specifies a natural steel finish for the motor cases but I've seen some painted semi gloss black. What's the concensus on the finish?

    Regards,

Dave - Seymour makes a great stainless steel paint that looks like the bare steel, learned about it in a restoration class from Steve Hack at Eastern Corvettes in Bloomington a few years ago. It passes judging scrutiny per Steve...it really does look like steel unless you look very close. I forget the number offhand on the can....Craig

Floyd - yep, that was it, just couldn't recall. I bought 4 cans online at a farm store in CA somewhere, used a Google search. Was a nice place to boot. It is the first "paint" I have used that really looks natural...and was very easy to use. Didn't give the typical paint build up look, just like a pigment/dye.......Craig

Craig, Thanks for the Seymour link, I will really put it to use and order some more spray paint. I am down to my last 2 cans. I paid $4.00 a can at the Daytona Turkey Run a few years ago, then I ran out and found a company here in Orlando and they charged me $8.00 a can plus shipping.
              Thanks again,
              Floyd

                Craig,
How would you rate the Seymour Stainless Steel Paint compared to the Satinless Steel Paint that is supplied by Quanta? I have used the Quanta, but not the Seymour. Thanks for providing the web site information.

                Regards,
                Gene

Gene - I can't offer a comparison, as I have not used Quanta's SS product. Steve Hack turned me on to the Seymour paint in the class, and he judges midyear vettes as well as restoring them, and he indicated that judges have no issues when he uses this product on the headlight motors. It really doesn't look like paint at all...Craig

Re: C2 Headlight Motor Case Finish - Craig

Glad it helped Floyd! I bought 4 cans to reduce the shipping contribution since for 1 or 2 cans the shipping makes it costly. They have a great price though...Craig
