On Pirkle's web site there is a tech tip "To insure the direction of current flow is to the battery." It is referring to anytime battery voltage is removed from the generator. Since I am sure all or most have battery cutoff switches that are used regularly, I am wondering how much of a problem there is of welded points or a burnt armature. I have never experienced any of the potential problems referred to.

Re: C1-Polarizing the generator
Rob, Without getting into theory of operation, battery current flow, etc. Others on this board may want to expand, on the reasons why.
If not polarizing the generator, I would be more concerned with a battery explosion, from incorrect current flow, than burned points in the voltage regulator. Believe me, it can, did, and does happen. FWIW Dave- Top

Re: C1-Polarizing the generator
Rob, If the generator is not removed and disassembled there is usually sufficient residual magnetism to start the unit after the cutoff switch it turned back on. I have been using a cutoff on my generator car for years with no problems....Hope it helps...Terry- Top
