big block questions gary schisler my neighbor is trying to restore his back to its original configuration he has found an original caprice with an unmolested in it the block is a with a stamp pad that i cannot decipher here is the question the stamp reads w the w is on the left side of the pad and the numbers are slightly offset to the right and just below this w there are not any other numbers or codes like i find for my does anyone know whether this is a four bolt or a two bolt engine is this the same block as his corvette i know that gm used blocks in many different applications from cars to trucks example which was used for years and was found in lt ' and trucks we are trying to figure out if this will be a good candidate for a transplant into his car unforutnately he is the one who pulled and junked the original years ago also can anyone reference their judging manual and let me know what the proper casting numbers are for the exhaust manifolds thanks for the help gary

re big block questions joe lucia in addition to the information provided by bob patton i will offer the following first in addition to the ' caprice block also being correct for the ' corvette the caprice heads and intake manifold should also be correct if they are the caprice's original ones intake should be casting number heads should be casting number with respect to the stamped number i can't be of much help if you are reading the number correctly it wouldn't appear to be a gm type stamping bear in mind that sometimes automotive rebuilders will stamp their own codes into engines that they rebuildIn Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
