After Duke's excellent tire articles I kept thinking there was a 255/60-15 that could muster something better than a mere S or T speed rating. It was bothersome to me that nobody produced anything beyond the 'cosmetic performance tires' to borrow Duke's now infamous term.
Well I finally again remembered the Pirelli Scorpion Zero. It's available in both 255/60-15 and 235/65-15 and it comes in 'V' and 'H' speed ratings for those sizes respectively. It has a 340 A A UTQG rating which are comparable to at least the police tires.
There's also a Kumho Eksta 255/60-15 in an H speed rating w/ 320 A A.
However there's a catch. Beyond the fact that these may not be aesthetically appropriate for some on a vintage Corvette, (not to mention judging issues) they are marketed as SUV tires albeit on-road highway versions. Still I'm told the Pirelli at least has stiff sidewalls and can be an impressive performer on a C3. It may also be the OE tire on the Cayenne, not sure. I have no personal experience (yet) nor do I know how easily obtainable they are.
Just thought I'd pass this along before folks completely give up on performance tires in this size. There may be other options yet if you further prowl 'SUV' tire lineups... Still I'd be curious to know how the Scorpion Zeros compare to the police interceptors previously discussed. Perhaps Pirelli should send a few sets to the NLETC.
