I am buying another 350 engine. It is a 3970010 block that I was told came from a corvette. The casting date is A 18 1. There is no vin number on the pad, but there is V0119TBC on it. It is also a four bolt main. Can someone tell me what it is? Thanks, Tom

Re: bought another engine
Tom----
It originally resided in a 1971 Chevrolet truck with a 250 hp 350 with TurboHydramatic 400 transmission. A lot of truck applications with 4 barrel carburetor, especially in the early 70s period, used the 3970010 casting with 4 bolt mains. This block was one of them.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

For all practical purposes, the only difference between a base 1971 Corvette engine and the truck engine is the engine pad stamp code. The camshaft and pistons MAY be different, but, otherwise, it's pretty much the same.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: bought another engine
I'd be surprised if anything at all is different, based on my experience with 71's.

I agree; there likely is no difference with respect to core engine internal components. I just suggested the few POSSIBLE sources of difference. For the most part, the hp difference between the truck engine (250 hp) and the Corvette engine (270 hp) was likely the result of peripheral component differences (carb, distributor, exhaust, etc.). I could have looked up the actual differences but I felt lazy. I hate to get into the truck information. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
