Windshield Washer Pedal on a '56

After converting my '56 to manual transmission, I found that the pedal for the windshield washer pump was in the way of the clutch pedal. I temporarily removed the washer pedal until I come up with the right solution to this problem. In Noland's book, he mentions the washer pedal on the '57 being moved to the left to address this very situation, no mention on how to get around the problem on the '56.
I see two scenarios for the '56: Windshield washers weren't available with manual transmission cars, or the washer pedal had to be relocated to the left on manual cars to clear the clutch pedal.

Anybody out there with a '56 manual transmission and washer pedal that could clear the situation??

    Thank,

    If it's anything like '55...

The M/T cars had the washer pedal relocated for just this reason.

      Pierre,

My 56 has a 3 speed and windshield washers. I can't say for sure if the washer pump was moved to make room for the clutch, but I can take some measurements for you and look at mounting holes and such. I believe the AIM has a detail on this option and it might shed some light on the situation as well. Steve

        Thanks for the info Steve.
I would appreciate the measurements, this way it will confirm if the pump came in two different locations. I don't expect re-locating the pedal few inches would be a problem.

          Pierre -

There were two different locations for the pump, depending on whether the car had a manual or Powerglide - it's shown in the A.I.M under FOA 109, Sheet 1.0, View "C". Although Noland's book identifies this as a 1957 condition, I believe it's applicable to 1956 as well, as the parts are all the same.

Early 56 had the 55 pump design and also the same heater, some time later was changed to the 57 design.

Just to add some 57 sturr to the conversation, my 57 has washers and three speed trans. washer pedal is well to the left of the clutch.
