C2 Windshield /rubber gasket sealant

The 66 judging manual indicates on page 41, "Evidence of sealant or caulking between the trim and the body is incorrect". I assume that this refers to only the trim and that it is acceptable to use a black liquid windshield sealant between the glass and the black rubber gasket? I've been told that this sealant is what the factory used to seal the windshields to the gasket.

If memory serves, sealant used between the windshield gasket and the opening of the windshield frame was a form of grey rope caulk eventhough the service manuals of the era recommended using RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) for service replacement jobs....

Jack,

The caulk that you are referring to is strip caulk otherwise known as dum dum. I used this between the trim and gasket. I'm referring to the sealant between the glass and gasket.

Dave -

I think this refers to cleanup rather than application - the entire periphery of the rubber seal to the body and windshield frame under the moldings was SLATHERED with 3710409 sealant - almost a full pound per windshield.

Yes, they did - P/N 9981215 sealer.
