    Judging - Ebay Alternator

There is an Ebay 693 Alternator (Ebay # 2437582550) with a June 2, 1965 date that would match my late June, 1965 convertible. Based on the picture how would this be judged?

    Thanks.

Hard to tell from the photo

        Dave,

I think the answer is, it's hard to tell how it would judge simply based on the photo. For example, what does the outer surface/skin look like up close, in real life? Do the diodes have the correct codes/colors?

The 693 alternator is a farily common one. I'm sure John Pirkle has some restored ones to sell and I would bet that he has one with a date appropriate for your build date. Plus, if you get one from Mr. Pirkle, you know it's going to judge perfectly. I can't remember what John charged me for a 693 a few years ago, but with the e-bay price at $99, I'd give Mr. Pirkle a call if I were you.

        Just my opinion,

        Gary

Date code 6K6 means Oct. 6, 1966. Look for one that starts with a 5 and a letter between A through F.. As in 5F9 June 9, 1965. BTW there are tons of 693 alternators out there so this should not take too long to get one with a correct date code. I've been working on a 1100696 with a similar date code as yours. Now that little bugger can be a challenge to find and real expensive. But yours should be a very reasonable cost as well as a fairly common alternator to locate.

            Thanks

Thanks for the responses. I will call John Pirkle. Based on his web site - www.johnpirkle.com, believe it or not , he looks to be a good source.

            Thanks again.

              Re: Thanks

Dave, from having known and done business with Col. Pirkle for about 15 years, you will not find a more honest and straight forward individual in this hobby. Maybe some as much so, but none more. His word is his bond.
