    C-3 Carb question

    Hi,
I have a '80 L-82 that someone put a Holley carb on. It's been suggested that I go back to the Rochester Quadrajet. I found one that's been completely rebuilt and is numbers correct for a manual transmission. I have an auto. The guy told me that it would fit mine as well because it has the trans kickdown connection on throttle shaft.
I don't know alot about it, but does this sound right?

if it has the kick down cable connection and has the fittings for all the hoses it should work. all the internal parts are the same.

Kieth, I had the same issue on my 77. The car is an automatic and I was able to pick up a used Quadrajet to have rebuilt. The used carb was off a manual transmission car. The Quadrajet carbs were identical and all I had to do was take the kick-down stud off of one and put it on the other. Steve

        Thanks guys.
I couldn't find a listing of what carb number belonged on my car, but the number the guy gave me shows up in my 1980 GM shop manual, so it must be close enough. Anyone know where I can find out what exact number I'm supposed to have, or does it not matter?

        thanks, again...

The one he has is 17080207, will this work? or is it for a different motor?

the 17080207 is a for the std corvette engine not the hi per L-82. the difference is the 228 has # 72 pri jets and # 41 rods and the 207 has # 71 pri jets and # 42 rods. the secondary rods are the same

                Keith-----

GM #17080207 was the original carb used for 1980 L-48 with manual transmission applications. Basically, I think that the carb will work alright and will be compatible with all 1980 emissions systems. However, external linkage and/or auto trans kick-down provisions may well be lacking. Internal jetting/metering rods will likely be somewhat different, too.

Thanks again. I think I may just wait til I do the rebuild and go with the Edelbrock replacement for the Rochester. I've heard it works well....
