I have seen estimates of between 800lbs stripped to 1200 lbs on a coupe body on this board.
I just did a body lift and placed the body on Noland's body dolly. I got a steel beam and placed it under the body dolly with a knife edge fulcrum, calculated the mechanical advantage and with my own body weight just balancing, I came up with 780 lbs(subtracting the body dolly 150lbs which I weighed on a bathroom scale previously).
Including is seats, all glass,doors most of the interior, radiator support frame, luggage rack.
Excluded is the mininum components to do a body lift: hood, front bumper and support bracket, rear bumper and support bracket, front grill and parking lights,interior kick panels right and left, interior shift council, interior parking brake council tranny cover, floor mats, battery, jack and t-tops.--- in short, I only took off the absolute mininum to do a body lift.
So,,,,did anyone actually take a body to a weigh scale and do some real measurements?
Before I did this, I assumed the 1200 lb figure. I was using a 2 ton engine hoist but after doing a stress calc on the boom part I came up with only 1000lbs with the boom fully extended so I added some channels onto the boom just to make sure. The 2 ton rating is only with the boom fully collapsed. Had I known the 780 figure, I wouldn't have added the extra channels.
BTW, the engine hoist lift worked really well, The wheels of the car were on those wheel dollies so that I could pull the rolling chassis out sideways to get around the hoist legs. I welded up a steel sling frame to keep the straps out away from the body.
I'll stick to the 780lbs unless someone has some real measurements.
