When I bought my car, most everything on it was original (still has the original spare tire, for instance). All of the books I have say that the ball on my 4-speed shifter should be black chrome rather than "silver" chrome. However, the shifter ball on my October '68 build date car is chrome rather than black chrome. Could this be the original ball? (That is, is it possible that early '69s had chrome like the '68s rather than black chrome?)

Re: Early '69 Shift Ball--Chrome?
John-----
I can offer this: I have a friend who is the original owner of his mid-October-built 1969 coupe with L-46 and 4 speed. His car has now and always had the black chrome shifter knob.
The black chrome shifter knob was discontinued from SERVICE many years ago and was replaced by the 64-68 chrome knob. So, it's possible that the knob was replaced on your car after the originals were discontinued. The knobs, of course, don't wear out, but they are easily stolen.
The black chrome knob is available in reproduction. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
