    Engine block

On a 327 SB engine block, there are (2) tapped holes on the left front, lower side (when viewed from radiator toward windshield), just below the fuel pump. What are they for ? I think, the left one is used to hold the fuel pump actuating rod in place, when the fuel pump is removed, using a bolt. Is this correct, and what is the other hole for ? Also, what is the best way to plug them, if they are not used ?

that is where the motormounts bolted to the engine in the 50s. you must use a short bolt in the one so you do not have a oil leak

It's the upper one on the passenger side (fuel pump side) of the engine that must be plugged with a cap screw. Use a 3/8-18 X 1/2" with sealer on the threads. The other bolt holes on either side can be left as-is.

        Correction

That should have read 3/8-16 X 1/2" NOT 3/8-18. There is no 3/8-18 thread.
