I am getting ready to install the rebuild engine on my frame. I purchased a new clutch from LUK (per the Forum's recommendation). I will blachard grind the flywheel next. Should I have the flywheel and clutch assy balanced, or is that overkill ? I am told, that the clutch should have been balanced by LUK before shipping, and the flywheel should be OK. Should I balance ?
I would balance it. I put a new GM pressure plate in my 74 years ago, and I had a vibration afterward and took it back out....I wouldn't trust the factory balance. Plus, whe the flywheel is face ground, it can affect the balance slightly....Craig
DEFINITELY have the refinished flywheel and pressure plate assembly balanced. In my opinion, this is a MUST. Failure to do so could mean "going back in". You don't want to chance having to do that, do you.
Thanks, I will balance the assy, one never knows, how good the balance of the flywheel was, before. And for that matter, what the balance is as an assy.
I work at Ford, we balance spindles and tooling, and often find, that individually, the pieces are "in balance", but need to be tweeked as an assy. You confirmed my thoughts.
