    3779553 ??

A friend has an aluminum bellhousing with casting number 3779553. None of my references list bellhousing numbers, anyone know what the application is?

        Clem,
        There were no production cars in '62 with a 348. The passenger car application is '62 327/300hp, & 409/380&409hp; '63 409/400&425hp.
Someone else can fill in the specific '62 Corvette application. I've seen asking prices of $350. but have seen them sell for much less.
        Verne.

            Nick-----

In addition to the passenger car applications described by Clem and Verne, the GM #3779553 bellhousing was used for 1961-62 Corvettes with manual transmission. This bellhousing is an aluminum sand casting with "open" bottom (as were all aluminum and cast iron sand cast bellhousings). It is designed for use with a 14", 168 tooth flywheel and a 10-1/2" clutch.

              Re: 3779553 ??

Sorry, but I believe this housing WAS used on 348s in 61 for the hipo version with 3x2 carbs.
Also, I bought one at the Chickasha swap meet yesterday for $110. It had a minor crack and one of the threaded holes on the bottom for the pan was stripped. I have welded, repaired and refinished both and they are nearly undetectable (only the most knowledgeable could find the repairs, AND the housing would have to be off the car). Once installed on a car, NEITHER could EVER been seen.

                Tom-----

I never said that this bellhousing was not used for the application you decribed. I simply provided the Corvette applications for it. As a matter of fact, the GM casting #3779553 bellhousing WAS used for the 1961 SHP 348 application in addition to the 61-62 Corvette, 61-63 passenger car 409 and the 1962 passenger car 300 hp.
