    Romen Red Paint codes, again

Getting ready to paint. I'm starting to notice the range from red to orange on pictures, catalogues and my own car. I assume it's from fading from sunlight. I want the "better than" look. My body shop wants to use Sikkens paint.?
Has anybody used this and have any numbers for Roman red?

You can get the mixing formula for Riverside Red from the DuPont website. It is the same color and formula as Roman Red, they just dropped the Roman Red name from the listings. This obviously only works for DuPont Paints.

Dupont makes the correct color in any type of paint you choose.why use brand X.

I don't understand all this Sikkens worship. Paint is paint just like motor oil is motor oil. All the major manufacturers use the same basic chemical technology, but I think you're always better off using an OE supplier.

If you own a Mercedes or BMW use Sikkens. If you own a Corvette, use Dupont.

Most shops select a supplier and stick with them. Nothing wrong with that, but there's no guarantee that Sikkens will have the correct color. Neither is there a guarantee that DuPont will be right on because there has been some material changes over the years, but if I had to pick the one that was most likely to be the closest match I'd pick Dupont Riverside (Roman) Red acrylic lacquer for my Corvette and Sikkens Signal Red acrylic enamel for my Mercedes.

Thank you for the imput. I've never heard of Sikkens. A friend is doing the paint for me and he wants to use what they use at his shop. I've seen his work and I don't want to tell him how to do what he does. He asked me to see if I could find somebody that knew the numbers.

Sikkens is a European company and a OE paint supplier to the German OEs.

A lot of shops swear by it, but I don't think it's fundamentally any different than Dupont or PPG.

I'm assuming that if your supplier wants to use Sikkens, they aren't going to use lacquer. Getting a good color match from a non-OE supplier could be a problem notwithstanding that it will be obvious that the paint isn't lacquer unless the guy is an ace at doing NCRS type paint work.

If you get a Dupont or PPG number for Roman red in either the OE lacquer of some other system you can check if Sikkens has a cross reference to it, but I don't know why your painter cant' do this task.

It sounds to me like you're going into the paint job with little information on what's going on.

Re: Romen Red Paint codes, again

Duke, Your right, I don't know much about paint. That's why I'm asking questions and the reason it's the only thing on the car that I'm not doing myself. I'm trying to stay as close to original as I can with parts. I've decided to have the body and paint the best possible. I would rather not try to explain waves and misfitting body parts to everybody else. I intend to drive the car. I don't think I would hold up mentally during NCRS judging. I respect your suggestions and want to paint the car with the product that will make the car look the best to most people that see it.
                Thanks
