    Rodents

This is always a popular topic at this time of year but I don't think I have ever seen a definite solution to the rodent problem. I came across this site that claims "peppermint oil" is the way to go. Has anybody ever used this or similar products?

      Re: Rodents

Mice are the biggest risk because they can get almost anywhere. Traps under the car and poison inside the engine compartment, interior, and trunk are what I use.

I had chipmunks gnaw a hole from the underside of my '00 convertible and fill the heater plenum with the contents of our bird feeder.

geezer i use rat traps baited

with corn super glued to the trigger and i even smear a little peanut butter on for good measure. you have to glue the bait because they can get it off with out triggering the trap. get one about every day. told mrs clem if we get enought i will make her a fur coat.

            Re: Rodents

ground squirles(chipmunks) have been my biggest and most expensive problem over the years. my 94 pickup wans't a year old when the two dogs(both St. Bernards) noticed a chipmonk near the truck. a chase ensued(2 x 170#'ers vs 1 x 1.7 oz'er). Mrs chipmonk finds safety in the A-arm section of the nearly new pickup. ole Buddy and Paddy, when the smole settled. had chewed the 3/4 ton factory installed flares from the front fenders, claw marks all over hood, and soft-ball sized hole in the plastic grill.truck repairs exceeded 1k. i hate chipmonks. mike

              Mike,

That's why I have several .22 rifles set up for Rodent Elimination Duty.

i have had them get trapped in my garage, and try and chew their way out thru the rubber seal at the bottom of the door. i have had to replace 2 seals. if you keep bird feed in your garage they will come to get it,they chew holes in the bag. like i posted before, rat traps and glued on corn with a little peanut butter.

                    Re: Rodents

Pierre...I solved the rodent problem in my pole barn prior to moving south by installing an electronic box purchased from Northern Hydraulics for $65. Prior to that, with up to 7 Corvettes in there, it was a severe problem; tried moth balls, poisons, etc. w/o success...even had a complete interior, including convertible top for my '63 ruined by mice. All were in the original sealed cardboard cartons and placed up on rafters for safe keeping.

After putting this contraption in the center of the barn, I put out the usual poison boxes (Decon as I recall), normally consumed in a few days, as a test - they remained untouched. End of problem, just a bit late! Hope this helps. Bob

                      Bob,
Not familiar with this contraption fron Northern Hydraulics. Could you provide more details, sounds interesting and worth pursuing...

                      Thanks.... Pierre

                            MothBalls placed around the vehicle!

Sprinkle mothballs in a circle around your car and they won't cross them .....

I don't have any problem with rodents in my garage but when i first got my 72 I had it jacked up in the driveway and using an airgun to blow in to the frame holes green rat pellets and an old nest blew out of the one fram rail plus a giant cloud of dirt. I guess the previous owner had mice and rats. Eric
