Looking to buy a gas gauge sender for my '62 (another one, but that's another story). Guy's got some listed now on EBay. Some listed as 56-60. Some as 61-62. I thought 56-62s were all the same???? Why the distinction? Item is built from stainless steel to GM specs. The original one was not stainless. What's with that? Seller says he is an AC Delco dealer. Part number is shown as 1518781. What's that? Can't find that number on the AC Delco or the GM Parts Direct sites.

Re: C1 Gas Gauge Sender Part Number?
Chris-----
For 1953-62 FOUR different fuel gauge senders were used. The 1953-55 unit was GM #1517911. For 1955, this unit may have been limited to 6 cylinder applications.
For early 1956 the sender was GM #1518781. This unit had a 5/16" fuel pipe nipple. This sender was discontinued years ago and replaced by the below-referenced sender.
For later 1956 through 1962 Corvette applications with standard fuel tank, the sender part number was GM #5642125. This unit has a 3/8" fuel pipe nipple and can be used for the early 1956 application.
For 1959-62 24 gallon tank applications I can't determine the the fuel sender SERVICE part number. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
