    1957 Speedo Cable

Can anyone tell me where to stick my speedo cable??? When standing in front of the car looking at the firewall does the speedo cable go in the opening immediate to the left of the master cylinder (just above the steering column) as shown in the AIM section 12, sheet 9? The AIM section 12, sheet 9 also shows the oil pressure line going through the opening closest to the windshield wiper motor. What goes through the middle hole (the one in the recess)? Thanks.

Thanks John, that's a great picture. This leads to a new question. The picture in section 12, sheet 9 in the AIM shows the speedo cable going through the other hole. In your picture it looks like that hole is filled (glassed in). My car does not have washers and that hole was orginally filled and the one on the outboard side of the master cylinder was also filled. Should they be filled or should there be rubber grommets? If they are filled what are they filled with - fibreglass or bonding adhesive?

        Brian -

Good question - mine came that way, and I left it that way, never got dinged for it. Just did some digging, and in the fuelie section of the A.I.M. (RPO 579, Sheet 4.01, for Airbox cars with the column-mounted tach), it refers to the hole in the recessed area as the "tachometer hole", to be covered and finished-off, as the column-mounted tach cable required a different hole to be drilled in a different location. Maybe the hole in the recess is for the standard tach cable after all, and mine had the production speedo cable hole plugged and finished-off by one of its (many) previous owners?
