Re: Multi-Battery Tender recommendation
Dino,
I use the Battery MINDer. It has the advantage of being able to desulphate your battery. See the company's website for details. I bought mine from on of the repro battery guys at Carlisle. You can also buy them from Northern Tool.

Re: Multi-Battery Tender recommendation
Do not connect batteries together.
Each battery needs it's own tender
1. the current output of the tender is low and will only keep one battery at the float voltage (12.8v to 13.2v) The tender will not charge the battery. The battery must be ar full charge for the tender to work.
2. Batteries connected together in parallel without isolation diods and with no or very low input float current will go dead. they feed off each other and run each other down. One battery is always slightly lower than the other thus current is then passed from one to the other killing both.
3. I also suggest disconnecting the battery when hookig up the tender. This ensures the car's electrical system is not loading down the tender
I know this from my experience with dual batteries in boats. In a boat one should never leave the batteries unattended with the battery selection switch in the "both" position unless there is an isolation circuit.- Top

Re: Multi-Battery Tender recommendation
Bill,
You're right about them needing to be fully charged at the outset, but the Battery MINDer specifically states that up to 5 can be hooked together, and gives instructions.

KQQL
Never heard of a tender that could float 5 batteries at once. I'll have to check it out.

Re: Multi-Battery Tender recommendation
Great device - I've used them for years with no problem; hook it up, plug it in, and forget it. We also used them in the Viper Plant in the shipping room when finished Vipers destined for remote destinations (Alaska, Whitehorse-Yukon Territory, etc.) would sit for weeks at a time waiting to make up a full load (5 cars) for a Reliable carrier truck.- Top

Re: Multi-Battery Tender recommendation
I bought one of their high frequency jobbies they sell for several hundred dollars on Ebay a couple years ago for $50 from someone that got 10 from a fire dept that had them on a trial somehow. Has a microprocessor controlled charging curve...and a full 20A charge rate with the same trickle down management and control as the tender. Pretty neat device I thought.....Craig- Top
