I received some reproduction belts today from Quanta Restorations and find that the water pump/idler belt fits loose on my 1969 427 CI with C60 air. The idler is adjusted in as far as it can go. They provided me with a GM 3940990 belt, their part number B-144. I have checked my pulleys and they are correct. Is the belt and adjustment correct like this or should it be a different belt? I'll appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks, Art Ives #37780

I believe that Quanta has sent you an icorrect belt. The GM #3940990 belt is belt which is about 33" long. It was used for later 1968 427 applications with A/C. 1968 used a different and unique-to-1968 idler pulley configuration.
For 1969, the idler pulley configuration changed considerably. Consequently, the belt used changed, too and was of GM #3952336. This belt is 31-7/8" long and of 15/32" width. The GM #3952336 belt, or a reproduction thereof, should solve your problem. The GM #3952336 belt is discontinued, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C3 Water Pump Belt.
I just changed all of the belts on my '72 454 with A/C with belts from Quanta. I had a dickens of a time with that belt, because it was alomost too short. I had to remove the water pump pulleys to get enough "slack" to get it to fit. But I finally did get it all reassembled. I'll check tonight when I get home for the part number I used.- Top

Re: C3 Water Pump Belt.
Thanks,Joe and Mike. I appreciate your time and assistance. I will call Quanta tommorow. It appears that they have a problem on both web site and catalog. What is interesting is that they told me that the 3952336 is a 3/8 belt when I need a 15/16 width. Maybe more errors in their files. Thanks again, Art Ives- Top

That's 15/32" and NOT 15/16". A 15/16" "V" belt was never used on any Corvette----maybe heavy duty diesel trucks or caterpillar tractors, but not cars. A 15/32" belt is just a little wider than a 3/8" belt----3/32" wider, to be exact. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
