    61 Powerglide Ser # 10867 S 10 6364

I have what is supposed to be the original block and want to rebuild and return car to original. I have the carg. & intake manifold etc. that have the correct nos.
    Engine casting # 3756519, cast date 0 J 13
The stamped code is 9V1733 63 without a suffix which I think is DG.
Does anyone have an explanation for the missing suffix?? The pad does not appear to have been altered.
    Thanks Gord Linkletter

    Gord-----

There are several "anomolies" here. I've never seen a Saginaw-cast block with a casting date code sequence in which the year was the first character of the series (in this case "0" for, presumably, 1960). It may have been used, though.

As far as the engine code goes, the series of characters is unlike that of an engine code, at all. For 1961 engines the engine code should consist of an "F", followed by four digits representing the month and day, followed by the 2 alpha character suffix code. The series of characters that you've described looks more like a VIN derivative. It wouldn't be a Corvette VIN derivative in any case, but there was no Chevrolet assembly plant in the GM system that used a "V" coding during the 58-64 period. So, I don't know what this is.

The stamped numbers look like a rebuilder's code - there weren't any letters in the VIN derivative denoting the assembly plant until '68 or '69, and "V" was the GM Truck & Coach truck plant in Pontiac, Michigan.
