thanks i was afraid of this jerry bramlett i appreciate your input david and carl thanks for taking the time to respond maybe it just depended on how the painter was feeling that day i've got four old bellhousings in the garage two were obviously all orange at one time one looks like it just has orange overspray near the engine the last one is greasey but has no orange paint at all i think i'll just spray the engine with my eyes closed
Thanks, I was afraid of this.

Bell housing paint
bell housing paint gary schisler jerry when i rebuilt my i immediately turned to the judging manual maybe i am missing something but i think it is pretty clear on the subject of painting the bell housing is cast aluminum painted engine color the degree of paint coverage may vary pg the clutch fork arm is painted or has considerable engine overspray pg in my observations on the judging field strictly as an observor or beginning judge i have seen all bell housings with a good solid paint job if you are looking for authenticity or correctness the phrase paint coverage may vary gives you the license to paint it as nicely or poorly as you want to i painted mine as evenly as i could that way when a non ncrs type looked in my engine compartment he didn't think i was some gomer with only one eye one half empty can of chevy orange and too little time to make it look good have fun and as the commercial says just do it btw looking forward to the next installment of your article in the restorer gary- Top

Re: Bell housing,Engine paint
re bell housing engine paint gene manno while on the topic of chevy orange paint it appears we restorers use too much of it look at original unrestored unprepared cars then look at what's in the flight line the flight line cars don't seem to miss any corner or crevis areas under or behind other parts have perfect body finishes while unrestored cars we haven't messed with the paint is so sparse and thin hidden areas have no paint never did hard to get at spots are bare metal yet our flight cars you can comb your hair in them what happened to restoration whats now become the norm is stock appearing custom cars the trend is to restore it perfect comments- Top
