    steering wheel paint

Anyone know what kind/color paint should be used on a 60 corvette with horizon blue interior? Where to find it?
    Regards,

Don, I presume that this is a car you are not going to have judged. Your steering wheel should be approximately the same color as the rest of the interior, horizon blue in your case. The original might have differed slightly, since the color was mixed in the resin for the wheel.

Nothing you are going to buy in a spray can is going to do a wonderful job. The best options would be urethane or base clear (a type of urethane). They are tougher paints than the lacquer or enamel that comes in spray cans. The interior paint offered by the catalog vendors is lacquer and would chip off pretty easily. It also can be touched up easily. You can get clear urethane in a spray can, but whether it compares favorably with the real urethane with hardners is questionable. It could be applied over the rattle can lacquer for added durability.

I would take the wheel to a paint shop, along with the color code for horizon blue and ask them to spray it with urethane with a clear coat. That way, when it gets the surface all beat up, it's the clear coat that is taking the abuse.

Gary: if you're gonna have the car judged or if you want a nearly indestructable steering wheel restoration, Gary's Steering Wheel Restoration in Carlisle , pa is the way to go. his phone # is 717 243-5646.The first wheel i sent him was a real piece of crap--large chunks missing from junction of radials and peripheral ring. came back beautiful and wedding rings won't chip it. he uses a two part epoxy resin to repair.good luck, mike

I would not paint the wheel. I would clean up the original wheel to prove horizon blue is your original interior color.
