    Re: 1970 Heater Core

Well, I did the job from the engine bay. It was more than two years ago, but don't remember a big problem, just a retainer or something like that. You have to remember that I have 70 base manual car w/o AC. The most difficult part was to extract that small metal retainer, but with patience and some twistings I did it, repaired the leaking core, reinstalled it and finished with hoses in proper positions. From that day on my heater is OK. All my best from Argentina Roberto NCRS #30019 RMC

        Roberto,

I should probably "qualify" my experiences a little more by saying that I am "limited" to two heater core removals that are for 66 and 68 years only. I can understand your difficultly in accessing (from the engine compartment) the removal of the small metal retainer that holds the heater core in the interior blower fan box. In addition to the narrow angle of the inlet and outlet tubes, that would be a second "obstruction" to ease.

Not being critical at all, I'm glad you were able to do the fine job that you did. My observation/experience has been that the removal of components on both sides of the firewall was as simple as the job would get. Best Wishes. Tom #24014

Hello Roberto; Last summer, I replaced the heater core in my 69 completely from the engine bay. I don't remember any particular problems other than several retaining clips that held the core into the metal box. I had to "fidget" with them for awhile. I thought you were supposed to do it that way!! I never touched anything inside the car. The car is a 427/400 no AC. Chuck
