    66 Timing 327/300

I hope that someone will be able to tell me the correct timing for a 66 327/300 4spd. I have conficting info. one source has it at 6BTDC the other has it at 10BTDC.

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

    Rob-----

Assuming that you car is not equipped with K-19, the original timing spec was 6 degrees BTDC.

      Joe - follow up?

      Joe,

Thank you. BTW no K-19. The Corvette 1966-1982 Shop Manual, section 15-10 calls for "Base 66 = 10BTDC". Is this a mistake? It also calls for an idle speed of 700. According to the Service Manual it should be 500. Is the shop manual no good?

      Thanks for your advice.

        Rob----

I'll have to assume that the "shop manual" is incorrect on this point. It's also incorrect on the idle speed. The 1966 with 300 hp idle speed is 500 rpm.

The 10 degrees BTDC and 700 RPM idle are the specs for the 1966 L-79. So, I expect that the numbers somehow got confused.

I sounds like you have an aftermarket shop manual. You should buy a '66 Chevrolet Chassis Service and Chassis Overhaul manual if you want the most accurate information. Also get the resto. package from GM, which has all the specs.

Corvette News quotes initial timing of 6 deg. BTC with a range of 6-12, and idle speed of 450-500 in neutral with manual trans.

With K-19 recommended idle speed is 700 with initial timing of 4 deg. ATC.
