    1961 Splash Pans

I researched the archives on the finish for the front splash pans for a 1961 and only found information on 1957 splash pans. The JG states that the pans were on before black out procedure, but does not provide information on condition prior to blackout.

    Thanks for any information!

Ray - I would be inclined to believe they were dip painted black as the final manufacturing process prior to installation on the car... Dennis

        Ray,
I would agree with Dennis that they were painted a semi-gloss black complete.
They would also have been coated pretty heavily with undercoat after the fasteners were installed. My guess is that this was done to keep the rock chips from making the metal rust away very fast and to keep the noise down. This same process was applied to the back of the headlight buckets on C1 cars as well.
Most judges look for this undercoating at both locations. It is quite often thick enough that you can not verify whether the fasteners are the correct TR head mark! LOL

If they were on before blackout, please explain

how the right side of the body got past the battery at the body drop station.

            Loren,
I would agree with you. The blackout in the wheel wells of my 60, extended well past the line where the the splash pans would have been if they were in place!

I should have posted "undercoating" not black out!

              Sorry for the error!!

They were dip-primed black, and were installed after body drop.
