    C2 trailing arm bushings

    I used a small shop press to insert new rubber bushings. The bulging of the rubber (when compressed) at the inner ends of the bushings prevents the second bushing from seating completely. Is there a trick to being able to press on the outer metal sleeve, so that the rubber is not compressed?

    I cannot recall that being a problem when I did mine. You do realize that the outer bushing washers need to be pressed towards each other before & during your peening the end of the sleeve out to mate with the chamfered surface of the washer in order to retain the bushings in a compressed position, right? If you do realize that, and it's still a problem, why not just slice a bit off the inner end of the second bushing to get it to seat; after all, the idea is simply to fill the space with lightly compressed rubber so it can act as a cushion against transmitting harsh road vibration to the frame.

      For the bushing to perform it's intended function, the rubber must be compressed to a certain level. My feeble mind is failing me, but one of the vendors in the hobby sells a tool to compress the bushings and swedge the ends of the sleeve Maybe Vette Brakes?

      I am suffering a serious case of NCRS disease today.
