        Arisen!

Got eight and took care to keep cells filled with water as well as maintain charge with 'Baby Battery Sitter' -- a small, low output, intelligent charge/maintenance unit. I had trouble swallowing the 'fun' of changing battery in 396 (jack up, remove KH KO wheel, remove inner fender access panel, wrestle battery out without 'dinging' things up)....

Decided, what the heck, why not try that ole 'VX-6' cad based additive J.C. Whitney has sold for umpteen years to reverse internal sulfation. Laid the stuff in per instructions and put 'er on slow charge, monitoring specific gravity. After two days -- NOTHING, pure water in the cells....

Picked up my Chevy shop manuals and boned up on battery-ology. Read about the 'last gasp' method -- the 'shock' treatment. When all else fails, blow off normal slow charge method, and switch to blind high current/surge charge (50 amp for 20 minute).

Had nothing to lose at this point, so I switched to 50 amp 'start' mode on charger and let 'er rip. After prescribed dwell, dropped back to normal slow charge and went to bed.

In the morning she had 'arisen'!!!! Intelligent battery charger had gone into 'maintenance' mode. Checking specific gravity, I see individual cell readings that border on the low side of good/normal and high side of marginal. She cranks again, "like she did last summer" (Chubby Checker)....
