    '67 Fan Shroud Paint?

Should the fan shroud on a 1967 SB be painted? If so, should it pained on both sides, in and out? What color should it be painted. Is Semi-Flat Black by John Deer Blitz Black or Krylon 1613 a correct match? Are all three sections of the shroud painted the same?

    Ralph -

No paint - natural unpainted black-to-dark gray fiberglass.

Thanks. It doesn't look too good. I was hoping it should have been painted.

I hesitate to question John's post, and I don't know about 1967, but my 1966 Judging Guide says both small and big block shrouds are painted semi-gloss black. The reason I mention this is b/c the archives are full of threads on this subject and there is seldom agreement. My personal experience is that 2 of my 3 '66 cars have the original shrouds and both shrouds are painted inside and out, although the paint is very thin and the coverage is very poor. One of these cars is a Bowtie car and I have no doubt about the shroud and the finish being original. As I said, this is for '66 - would there have been a change for '67?

Ralph - I agree with John. My '67 is a mid-production run convertible with air and had not been restored when I bought it. It had the nearly black bare fiberglass shroud --- no paint ever, not even under or around the fasteners.

If no paint is on the shroud, how do you clean it up to make it nice nice? With a new radiator the shroud looks unfinished.
