Re: C2 Clock Restoration
Several articles have been written giving 'how to' instructions repleat with pictures in past issues of 'Restorer' magazine. Anyone with a CD-ROM copy of the Complete Restorer can help you.
On NOT replacing the clock movement, I guess I'd ask why bother to dive inside if it's currently working????
The major wear item is the clock's winding points (a cocking solenoid assy). It seems foolish to me to under take the disassembly labor to reach the clock's 'innards' and not install a fresh movement while you're there!
Also, you do have the decision to make on keeping the clock mechanism based on its original electro-mechanical drive or converting the clock to a quartz based mechanism. The quartz conversion will out-live you without needing replacement, eliminate the remote possibility of winding points 'frying' together and burning dash wiring, and keep MUCH better time....
But, expect factory concours scoring deductions during the Operations Check portion of Flight Judging and IF you attempt a Performance Verification with the car, the quartz movement will guarantee you fail! Bottom line, if your objective is a clean driver car that you have Flight Judged once in a while, I'd install a quartz movement without hesitation. But, if your objective is reaching the nosebleed level of serious factory concours judging (Mark of Excellence Award), then stay with the electro-mechanical movement....- Top
