Re: C6?
Bernard-----
This car generally answers the description of the C6 that I've heard described by GM folks that have seen it. Also, it "fits" with the heavily camouflaged car seen in another photo.
It's possible, of course, that it's a "styling car" or some other sort of a proptotype. Since it appears to be a fully operational car, I doubt that it is a styling car.
The "backdrop scenery" looks like it could be the GM Milford Proving Grounds, although I don't understand what that "non-GM" car is then doing in the background.
All that being said, I certainly hope that this is NOT the actual C6. This looks like really nothing more than a "customized" C5. Not anything that I could ever get excited about. It looks like George Barris got involved in the design. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

False alarm!!! Call off the dogs!
That picture has been photoshopped from one that was taken on a public road about a month ago. In the original photo it's wearing a padded bra, padded diaper, tape over the fender vent and other camo. It's not a bad chop job, but keep in mind that the rear facia and fender vent detail is someone's rendition, not the real McCoy!
So far a C6 has NOT been spotted without the facia and fender vent camo. Fixed HID headlights are confirmed, but facia details remain unknown, other than four tail lights, per long standing tradition, and front will also have a forward facing grille opening, but it's likely to be a combination of both front and bottom feeder.
The C6 will be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show and shown shortly thereafter at the LA Auto Show, whose last couple of days overlap Detroit's first couple of days.
The C6 will also have a new LS2 6.0L Gen IV small block with torque and power at or a little above 400. Gen IV engines will have either two or three valve heads and variable cam phasing - both single cams and two inblock cams with one or both having variable phasing. The LS7, slated for the Z06 in '06, will displace 6.4 liters and should come in at about 500 HP.
The specfic technologies - number of valves and cams - that will be used for each engine is not currently known, but we'll get the LS2 details in a couple of months, and my bet is that the LS7 will have three valve heads and two inblock cams with variable phasing on at least the exhaust cam.
Displacement on Demand is also a new Gen IV technology, but it will NOT be used on Corvette engines - only truck engines.

Re: An LS7 maked it to production?
So will the LS7 make it into production...this time? Some 30 years ago++ an LS7 was slatted for production but it couldn't make the emission control regs and therefore never made it to the showrooms?
Now comes back to us in the form of a small block! When it arrives...I'm sure we'll find some authentic LS7 big blocks on eBay for sale.Tom Russo

Re: An LS7 maked it to production?
"Ford A Better Idea". It does look like a Probe. If this is GM idea of the new style C6 it is a joke. Hope the stylest have gotten off their rear. We have been waitng a long time for a new design car.

Re: An LS7 maked it to production?
Not nearly as long as we waited for the C4 or C5 to arrive. It hasn't even been 10 years! The C5 will be a "short termer" like the midyears.

Re: An LS7 maked it to production?
I don't get the "Probe thing". The C6 has a lot of "heritage" styling features a la C2/3 like the front and rear fender peak lines that blend into the doors. If anything, the C3, particularly the late hatchback version, is the inspiration.
The interior is supposed to also have some bright trim accents, which might be considered heritage inspired (Lutz hates the term "retro").
The C5 will enjoy an eight year run and because volume has been near the 36,000 single shift limit for the entire run C5 production may rival the total C4 production. Actually '97 was a short year with only about 10K units so 7 x 36K + 10K = 255, about double C2 production. C4 production was was about 358,000, C3 about 543,000. By comparisons C1s are very rare.

Re: C6?
Joe, I worked briefly at the proving grounds way back in about 1961. I don't recognize the make or year of that non-GM car in the background, but my recollection is that GM often purchased/obtained newly-redesigned cars from competitors (I think there may have been an agreement among the makers for obtaining those cars) when they first came off the line in a new model year. That, of course, was back when Ford and Chrysler were the only serious competitors to GM, and there were far fewer models. The competitor's car was run in the same strenuous testing cycle as the corresponding GM car, then completely disassembled and all pertinent (worn or failed) parts, primarily brake and suspension components, from both the GM car and the competitor's car were laid out on tables for the GM design engineers to study side-by-side.- Top
