67 factory repaint or hold up in production

When I stripped the paint on my 67 20 years ago I found the factory filler under one paint job and over another paint job both with the same materials sprayed on, where it looks like when in the trim line it was found that the rear glass mouldings had a gap on each side, that didn't pass muster,Would they remove trim or parts again to repaint or send it back as is,and did they repaint the whole car,How many days did this add to its production time.I know my car didnt make its ncrs jan 10 birth day and tank sheet says predicted 1-20 date and saw some other cars 500 higher vins show the 1 20 67 date.

    Frank -

Once it hit the Trim Line, it wouldn't go back to the Paint Shop; any paint issues (and there were many) were dealt with in off-line Final Paint Repair - almost every car had some degree of Final Paint Repair work. An issue like you describe would be dealt with by removing moldings and doing a spot repair, then buffing out the repaired area. The "expected date of production" is almost meaningless - they were always shown as a Friday, and sometimes showed all zeros; that was just a general indication back to the dealer when the car was likely to be produced.

Thanks John ,I was e-mailed that GM was on strike between my cars order date and build date which also fits with the lag in some parts dates and rush in others as well as the 9 week order till finished product time.
My guess is they shut down early dec till around the 29th of dec, in which two parts where produced on this car.

Yup, they were out on strike for most of the month of October, 1966.
