    68 outer window wipe?

Can any body shed light on the use of an outer window wipe on 68 corvette. I have looked at several doors and concluded that the outer wipe appeared as a design change throughout the 68 production and probably also showed up as a TSB to the dealers. Any comments would be appreciated. Regards, Terry

Terry, my observations of 68's are similar to yours.

I can tell you that my February 68 built convertible has outer window wipes that are "fuzzy strips". The strips have buttons which snap into holes on the outside of the door.

I also have a door from a May 68 built coupe. The outer window wipe is not a fuzzy strip. Although it is in very poor condition, it appears to have been much like a wiper blade. The blade was held in place by screws.

    I hope this helps.

I have only seen two kinds. Those doors that only had fuzzies on them and those that had a fuzzy and a rubber wipe on them. The rubber wipe was located between the fuzzy and the door frame. The fuzzy had the typical small philips head screws helping to hold it to the frame. Does anybody know if 69 wipes will retro fit to a 68 vette? Regards, Terry

There are '68 repro door wipes available, or at least used to be. Not 100% correct, but served the purpose. Check Vette catalogs.

Dick, any chance you could describe the difference between the original and reproduction? Regards, Terry

I had the rubber ones on my 68 that I had replaced with ones from one of the usual suppliers, I'm pretty sure it was Mid-America.

They worked out pretty well, and look good.

Rich, were they essentially the kind that were long strips of rubber that had the holes in them to line up with the fuzzy? Regards, Terry

                    Terry,

About 2-3 years ago Corvette Central came out with an outer window seal that was MUCH better than any I have used prior. It is no longer the generic, poor-fitting rubber replacement, but instead was the felt type of material as per original (at least on my 71 and 72). I received two pairs of their first ones.

They have a "correct" on listed for 68. I'd check it out. I had previously purchased window seals from other sources that were not correct and fit poorly.

Now that you mention it, I think that's who I got it from - CC.
