    69 engine numbers??

    Hey guys/gals...

There's a 69 Vette on ebay, that the guys says has a 427/390 engine that was replaced under warranty when the car was a year or so old. There is no documentation to prove that this is correct. The engine no is: 1c153821. Is that the correct block and is 1C for March 71? The engine 'code' is t1217crt. Can anyone translate that, please? Sounds like crt might be for "crate" motor.

Doesnt seem like any way the authenticity of the engine could be accounted for, or even that this is truly a big block car.... but I'll leave that for your commentary. How do things like this work when it comes to judging? Thanks, Brandon

    Brandon-----

The guy that says that it was replaced under warranty is wrong. This engine is a 454 cid engine originally installed in a 1971 full size passenger car built at the Southgate, CA assembly plant.

      Thanks Joe,as always...

So I guess the "crt" doesnt mean "crate motor"?? I guess that means its also possible that this really isnt a big block car, huh? What clues might I look for to distinguish a SB vs BB car? Is the criteria similar to the midyears?

      thanks again, Brandon

        Brandon------

No, "CRT" does meen "crate motor"; it's just a regular, old 70+ type engine suffix code.

Big block distinguishing features are, generally, the same for mid years as for 68-74.

          Brandon,

I don't think the term "crate motor" caught on until sometime in the mid 80's.
