    NCRS position on Re-stamping blocks

Wow!!! Everybody SHOULD look at this seller's statement on his '72 LT1 convertible for sale on E bay. The item is 2439957018 and was on page 4. Don't know who he is referring to, but I can't believe NCRS would sanction this!!!

Re: NCRS position on Re-stamping blocks

    From the ebay listing:

"During restoration of the engine there was fear of the front #'s being removed during decking and preparation of the original block. The engine builder already had a 72 LT-1 (correct #'s matching vintage block) #3970010 with the 4 bolt mains already decked and ready to build, so it only made sense to him to save the original with its true numbers and install the correct #'s matching vintage block with the front pad ready for stamping. The guy that owns and rents out the stamp kit is a NCRS guy for years and has stamped TONS of cars FOR NCRS verification. Once the rebuilt vintage block is stamped there will be NO WAY to tell it is not the original engine. Even though the original engine block comes with the car anyways. With an original #'s matching block in reserve and a NCRS approved #'s matching Vintage Block under your hood.....Your choices are endless!!!!!!!!!!"

      Where's the scandal?

All I see is some naive seller looking for a naive buyer. The seller makes two basic assumptions

      1) all restamps will always 'fool' the judges. He stated the block has been decked. How about broach marks? He also states that the stamper has 'the original' stamps used by GM. Must have been panic city in Flint having only one gang stamp to do the thousands of engines that rolled by every week.

      2) NCRS 'verifies' and 'approves' engines as being the original that the car came off the assembly line with. Guess he's never read the back of a Flight certificate.

The NCRS position on restamped engines has been public knowledge for some time. No news there. What's the fuss about?

How about his assertion that a '72 LT-1 w/ A/C had a special 5600 rpm tach? Yep. Sure. It wwas an original LT-1. I'm OK with that.

          That's nothing...Look @ the L-88 I just found...Automatic...Radio...Power Steering...The same 5600RPM tach AND only 12k miles on it.

I saw that one too. There are an unbelievable amount of incorrect information being told about a lot of these Corvettes for sale. It really makes you appreciate the NCRS members when they list a car for sale in the Driveline issues. I would place way more trust in those ads for sure.

OK, That's It. Good One, Richard.

It reminded me that we rented some videos Friday night for the trick-or-treaters...you know, turn off all the lights in the house except the flickering television screen, turn down the volume, ignore the door bell... One of the videos we rented was "Hollywood Homocide" with Harrison Ford (one thumb down and one thumb, uhmmmm, up).

Anyway, it started me to thinking...Do you realize how many actors in Hollywood are named after cars??! Just think about it...there's Harrison Ford, Chevy Chase...I guess if the Marxes had been a little younger there would have been another Marx brother...probably would have been Groucho, Harpo...Volvo. Ba-dap-BAAMM! (rimshot)

                Re: Where's the scandal?

Mike I agree a 72 LT1 air car did have a 5600 tack. He said he was replacing a 72 LT1 with the same block and saved the original. You get both engines to do as you choose No Problem. If it shows on the NCRS judging field I can judge if asked what I see with no problem or input either engine,as the pad speaks for its self. Lyle
