    C3 Fan Shroud Extension

Back in the early 1990's I was gathering parts to restore my 1969, 427, 4 spd. with AC. I purchased a new plastic fan shroud from GM but the extension was not available. Working without an assembly manual at that time I was sold at a show an NOS extension, number 336152. Much to my suprise I found out today that it doesn't fit correctly. Can someone identify what my extension fits and where I can purchase a correct extension that is good for show. Thanks, Art Ives #37880

The original fan shroud extension for your application was GM #3956089. This piece was discontinued from SERVICE without supercession about 1982.

The GM #336152 fan shroud extension is actually the late 73 through 1974 piece. GM "sort of" catalogued it as a replacement for certain 70-74 big block applications and the part "sort of" fit those applications as well as the 1969 application. Actually, though, the GM #3956089 extension is designed to work with the GM #3956119 fan shroud used for all 1969 through early 1973 big blocks. The GM #336152 was designed to work with the GM #339175 fan shroud used for all applications from late 73 through 75. As I say, though, the 336152 will "sort of" work for the 69 to early 73 big block applications.

Where to get a GM #3956089? Well, the used marketplace is one source. Pacific Corvette, Contemporary Corvette, or Paragon Vintage might be able to fix you up. Look out for weathered and/or damaged pieces, though. Another source for a NEW reproduction is none other than the good doctor, Dr. Rebuild. Dr. Rebuild's reproduction fan shrouds and extensions are, in my opinion, the best on the market.

Thanks Joe, Are you saying that the 336152 extension is simular enough to redrill holes and fit it to my 3956119 fan shroud? Not knowing how the correct one fits I hesitate to try and fit it. I didn't know Dr Rebuild reproduced fan shrouds and I will be sure and check with them. Thanks, Art Ives

Shermershiem's Corvette also makes a good reproduction

I think that your best bet is to purchase a reproduction or obtain a used piece. I wouldn't fool around with trying to modify the one you have. You can always sell the 336152.
