    GM# 3819762

    Hello,

Could someone please tell me what year this piece of ignition shielding is for?

    Thanks,

    Ian

    Ian-----

It is first used for the 1963 model year and last used for the 1972 model year. It was discontinued in January, 1973 and replaced by GM #3987342. However, I can't find a PRODUCTION application for it. It may have been a SERVICE-only piece that was similar to the PRODUCTION piece. Is it the right side, lower block "V" shield?

      Hi Joe,

Thanks for the answer, lower right V shield is exactly what it is. It looks exactly like the regular production piece as far as I can tell but I only have a picture to compare it to. The box it is in is pretty old as well.

Any info on #3910298 valve covers? Are these correct for a 66 327/300?

      Thanks,

      Ian

        Ian------

The PRODUCTION lower inside right shield was GM #3819764. That part was never available in SERVICE, though. In SERVICE, it was known as GM #3819762. I don't know why; it's somewhat unusual for a part like this.

The GM #3910298 valve covers were never originally used on base engine 1966 Corvettes. These are a SERVICE-only valve cover released in 1968 to SERVICE most 1962-67 small block applications. These valve covers are configured more like the 67 base engine valve covers except that they do not have the "Chevrolet" script on them. The 1966 base engine used the 62-66 style, 327-only stamped steel valve covers. In my opinion, these were the best looking stamped steel valve covers ever used on a small block. They have been discontinued for years, but there are plenty of used examples around. There are a few slightly different configurations, though, of this style valve cover.

Ian The lower v shields changed in finish over the years so that may be what is different. Lyle
