Re: 66 RC-15 rad cap
Gary,
I know there are a couple of different types, one has kind of a hollow center, and the other is solid, both are brass. One style is for 66-67 and one for later years, I just don't know what style for what year.

Re: 66 RC-15 rad cap
Brian - Everett covered you on the rivet configuration. In addition to the rivet configuration there are a couple of other things to look for if you're looking at or for an "original" '66 RC-15 radiator cap. The RC-15 radiator pressure cap was used as far back as 1957 as original equipment on Buicks, Oldsmobiles, and Pontiacs and 1960 on Cadillacs w/ Air Cond and then sometime in the early '60s was used on Chevrolets and Chevelles w/ Air Cond (C60). The information stamped on the pre-'66 (best info I have as to the change) caps is different and/or in different locations
What I have observed for the RC-15 cap used for the '66 production year (and '67) is that the large washer directly below the cap that fits against the top of the filler neck is brass, not stainless steel; and the stamped information on the cap has (1) "AC" (logo) in a stamped circle and (2) "15#" (1 st line) and "RC-15" (2nd line) in another stamped circle which are by the two ears (one circle by each ear).
While the pre-'66 RC-15 caps also used the large brass washer and indented rivet; the AC logo was not enclosed in a stamped circle and both the "AC" logo and the "15#" and "RC-15" which may or may not be enclosed in a stamped circle are by one ear and "MADE IN U.S.A" and "PAT'D." are by the other ear.
Hope this information helps. Pete- Top
