    C2 Fan clutch

Does anyone recogize the following part # 27112414. Is this a GM fan clutch or a replacement?

    Jerry----

I show no record of any such part number in the GM parts system.

The only company I know of making fan clutches for GM was Eaton. It must be one of their process numbers. The item is on e-bay and the price is good for a working clutch.

        Jerry-----

There were at least 3 suppliers to GM for fan clutches in the "old days". One was Eaton. Another was Sweitzer Clutch. A third was Delco which made some of their own fan clutch models. Eaton and Delco usually have a coil-type thermostat; Sweitzer uses a "bi-metallic" plate.

Eaton still supplies fan clutches to GM. I don't think that Sweitzer or Delco supply fan clutches to GM anymore. However, there may be other suppliers that do.

          Jerry,

Until recently GM serviced the fan clutch under P/N 3916141 made by Eaton. It is an acceptable replacement and most judges don't know the difference or let it slide since the cost of rebuilding a fan clutch is astronomical. You might want to check with your Chevy dealer and see if any of the fan clutches are still in the system. The cost was $142.88 dealer and $190.50 list.

Cost to restore an original fan clutch isn't astronomical.... Fred Oliva's fee is nicely between the figures you quote for the GM service replacement component!
