Casting number of this rear end appears to be 3747506. There is no casting date in the usual place (or in an unusual place, for that matter!) It's a 3.70 open, with a stamped code of AH 7 21 My 56-7 judging manual is on loan, so if this is covered there I apologize. Do I recollect correctly that the 56 didn't necessarily have a casting date? Would this then be a late 56/early 57 rear? The July 21 stamping, with the AH code, leads me to suspect that? Wrong? Faulty? I'd appreciate input.

Check that casting again, I believe 56's end with 306. I've seen cast dates as early as K of 55 so I am wondering if this is a July 55 rear end?

Jimmy is correct, you should be seeing a 306. On mine, right below these numbers is a molded date code which includes the year (single digit). AH stamp sounds good to me regarding a 3.70. Incidently, you have a heavy package coming your way! Alert your wife ;-) ! Regards,Comment

On closer examination, it is 3747306! That is followed on the same line by the "GM" casting, and then immediately behind the GM, on the same line, is a 5.
