Has anyone personally rebuilt using a Crane Camshaft recently? They are recommending part#133802, recommended for 67-up chevy 396-454. (I am using stock valve train components) Adv duration is 278 int and 290 exh. The recommended rpm ranges are; min 2200, max 5200, valve float 6500. Lift @ valves: int 529 and exh 525. I am looking for good low-end performance with a nice sounding idle. This cam is described as having a good idle, daily performance usage, mild bracket racing, 3200-3800 rpm. The guy working on my heads said the springs I have should work fine with this cam. I was hoping that someone might be able to pass on the part# of a Crane cam they have been satisfied with.

The Crane guy was joking, right?
Rob, I don't think that cam would have a good idle. At least not by my definition of idle. Compare the specs with L88 cam specs.
If you're determined to use a Crane product, I suggest picking a cam with duration and lift specs similar to some factory grind that you like. I believe you'll have to go with something milder if you want low end (under 3,000 rpm?)performance. Note that the power of the recommended cam only starts at 2,200. That doesn't say much for the off-idle torque. I'm guessing that cam has to idle about 900 rpm.- Top
