    1962 emergency brake switch installation

I am trying to install an emergency brake switch I just purchased for a fortune and it will only stay on. Is there a procedure that installs this switch or some hint I can use to get it on right?

Does it work unmounted, the switch is activated by a little nub at the end of emergency brake lever, when lever is pulled out nub pushes up on switch to activate. It sounds like you have the brass actuator stuck open, pushed up against switch body. Mine was like that and when I tried to bend it back it broke, so be careful.

Yes it works fine unmounted. I don't think I have a nub. Where exactly is the nub located?

        Lee,
The nub is actually a knurled shank drive rivet with a large head that actuates the switch. It is not unusual to find the rivets sheared off, but they are available from several of the Repro parts suppliers. The rivet is driven into the shaft of the parking brake handle about 1/2 way down the shaft.
You can just drive the old broken one out with a small punch, but you will have to remove the entire shaft to remove the broken rivet. Do not install the new one with the shaft removed however, or the shaft will not go back in!

Lee if the 62 is the same as a 60, the switch mounts at the firewall end of the parking brake actuating handle vs the steering wheel end. The switch is normally closed, meaning that as it sets on the shelf, it is a completed circuit. The nub keeps the switch engaged, i.e., open circuit, until the brake handle is pulled out which closes the switch and completes the circuit.
When installing the switch on the parking brake handle, the screw on the clamshell bracket goes in from the inboard side.
