    Yoke & driveshaft

THE STENCIL KIT INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAINTING THE DRIVESHAFT INDICATE TO STENCIL ON BARE METAL AND MAKES REFERENCE TO PAINT OVERSPRAY.
I ASSUME THE YOKE ALSO GETS PAINTED.
DO I USE SEMI-GLOSS OR GLOSS BLACK PAINT???????

ALSO, DOES ANYONE KNOW IF I CAN PLACE THE BODY (WITHOUT: WINDSHIELD; DOORS; DECKLID; TRUNK & HOOD) UPSIDE DOWN WITHOUT CAUSING ANY DAMAGE TO THE FIBERGLASS.
I NEED TO REPAIR THE AREA AROUND THE FLOOR MOUNTS.

    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE,
    MIKE

    Re: Yoke & driveshaft

    Mike,
My experience with original driveshafts, is that the stencil was applied after the driveshaft was painted black. There may have then been chassis black out paint on top of the stencil depending on the direction the stencil was facing when blackout was performed. From a judging standpoint, I have always presented my car with the driveshaft restored in this manner and have never had a point deduct.

      P.S.

I have never painted the yoke. I leave the yoke natural and coat it with some matte clear to protect it and keep it looking nice. I paint the shaft with semi-gloss enamel.

        Mike:

I rolled my 65 'vert over during restoration, with no assistance. The body was prepped like yours, but also had front clip removed. I used an old carpet, about 15x15. It sat on the windshield frame and the decklid. I suppose your 57 will work also, but if the nose is in place, I would advise you to get 1 assistant. Just one word of caution: when the body is rolled 90 degrees, be careful not to let the full weight rest on the firewall (trailing edge of the front fender). Get it past the 90 quickly, or have your helper take some of the weight while you roll the body. Don't be afraid.........just do it.

I'm not sure what year your car is, but the

AIM's for later years carry the notation "NOTE: THIS AREA OF SHAFT MUST BE ENTIRELY FREE OF PAINT" with an arrow pointing to the yoke.
