    1957 steering box

ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHO TO SEND MY 1957 STEERING BOX FOR RECONDITIONING AND DOES THE STEERING SHAFT/COLUMN STAY ATTACHED TO THE BOX.
PREFERABLY SOMEONE ON THE WEST COAST AND VENTURA COUNTY WOULD BE GREAT!

ALSO, I'M IN NEED OF A 1957 AUTOMATIC RADIATOR SINCE THE ONE I HAVE IS FOR A STANTDARD TRANSMISSION.

I'M VERY PLEASED WITH YOUR SUGGESTIONS TO USE GARY STEERING FOR MY STEERING WHEEL- HE DID A GREAT JOB AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.

    THANKS AGAIN,
    MIKE

Mike: roy is corrrect. if you want to make your 57 a powerglide, the cast iron powerglide appropriate for 57 vettes did not have an external cooler, hence, as roy notes, the radiator for a manual tranny 57 is identical to that of a powerglide.Your question raises the possibility that the tranny in the car now has an external cooler. f theat's the case, you need to do some home work on automatic trannys available in 57 vettes.mike

        Mike,
I did my own a couple of years ago. There have been several articles in the restorer over the years. I got my kit from Dot Pro in Little Rock ARK but Mr. Harrington has retired. He told someone else to use this guy.

I realize that you are on the other coast. BAck in 1995 there was a seminar on box rebuilding put on at the NCRS meet in Steamboat Springs. The guy giving the seminar was form California. His name was:
        Joe Calcagno
        Box 62
        Soquel,California 95073
        408-475-4442

He worked on them I recall. I don't know if the contact info is okay or not as this was 8 years ago. I can scan and send the PDF file of the article from the seminar if you like. Send me an email and I will forward. email=tvonkampen@charter.net
Yes, the steering column stays attached to the box. I think the whole kit cost about $500 when I did it.

        Good luck.
        Ted
