    Scott fuel injection

Does anyone have any experience tuning a Scott mechanical fuel injection system? Some old literature describing an installation would be very helpful too.

The Scott system had four separate injector housings which bolted to an early Rochester FI adapter manifold. It used a cam driven high pressure pump like an Enderle or Hilborn.

For a peek at some Scott remains, take a look at eBay auction #2441779011. I contacted the seller. He's just a retailer who doesn't have any background info. He doesn't know if this unit has pill/injector sizing for alcohol or gasoline.

    Re: Scott fuel injection

Jerry, I have a 1964 issue of Peterson Publishings "Hot Rod Carburation and Fuel Systems" book, and it atlks a little about Scot, looks lihe a "cheapie" hilborn setup, the early ones used Stromberg carb bases for the butterflies with a nozzle added. I haven't looked at the eBay item. They used a precision machined metering valve that was the heart of the system, but it doesn't say much about the fule flow curve or anything like that. looks like if that component is not there it's pretty much history, but if it is???

this type was sold to be used with the "man i free" manifold setup back in the 50s for SBC where 1 set over each set if intake ports.

go to google and type in "scott fuel injection"

and you will see pictures of the "stromburg" based one for the man a free manifold. i had that set years ago for use on a drag car but we never got it to work

          Much more to this story

The website for Scott Injection really opened my eyes. First, the system requires a unique Scott centrifugal pump that must be driven at crank speed. So much for my idea of using an Enderle cam-driven positive displacement pump. The system on eBay is missing the Scott pump. It's also been altered. Originally the injector bodies were connected in pairs. You can see where the connecting casting has been cut away. This system is missing some of the linkage too, and possibly the idle adjustment mechanism. Rats.

Mel Scott, the original fifties inventor, is apparently alive and well. His injectors were made to replace two and four barrel carbs too. His blower injectors were the hot top fuel set-up in 1963. The website was set up by a fan who noticed a vintage Scott injection atop the car blower in the film "Mad Max".

          Neat stuff.

Re: Much more to this story

Wow, This is a flash-back to the late late 50's. I wrote Scott about buying his injection for my 58 Corvette and asking if there was any "sponsership" money available. Best I can recall, he confirmed if I painted "Scott Injection Special" on my car, he would be willing to pay $50. Never went any further
than that, but I was there... Best, Dennis

the P-6 picture looks like the man a free intake manifold but with different injectors. the ones i had are picture P-4. i wish i could remember what i did with them. when i built my new house in 1990 i dumped a lot of stuff so i would not have to move it.
