One of my neighbors has a mid 70's coupe and asked me to help id the engine. The only id I can find on the stamp pad is T0112DA which I am assuming is a Tonawanda motor bult on January 22. The DA, my research has indicated, is either a 65 283 or 68 307 SB. If I am correct so far I will try to find some additional numbers off the block. Where should I look to nail this down or am I completely out in left field with what I have determined so far?

Re: A little help please with an engine id
You already know it is not an original Corvette engine. What else are you trying to determine? If you are looking for the casting number it is on the drivers side rear flange of the block, where the bellhousing mates to the block, and can be seen from above with a flashlight.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: A little help please with an engine id
Bill,
Thanks for the info. The current owner knows that it is not an original motor but was curious to find out what motor was in the car.
He is not looking to restore the car. He is quite happy driving it everyday.
Thanks again,

Re: A little help please with an engine id
FYI
According to the Lime Book, DA is 65-67 283 ci, 195 hp with two barrell and manual transmission in a Chevelle or El Camino. It can also be a 68 307 ci, 200 hp, again with 2B and MT out of a Chevelle, Nova, or El Camino. OR, a 1969 307 ci, 200 hp 2B, MT out of a Camaro. The only way to know, as has been mentioned, is to check the casting date. Let us know what you find.
