Hi, what is the story on the polished aluminum wiper grills on 68 corvette. Also the wipper door trim chromed and fender trim chromed. Were dealers doing this or was this an after market thing? Or, was it just a thing thing? I have a car like this and found another guy that had the same thing. The original owner told him car was purchased that way? Weird. Is any of this true? Thanks again, Terry

Re: Polished aluminum wiper grill on 68.
I suspected they all came painted. I have a feeling that a dealership somewhere was doing the polishing bit. Mine was polished and now it seems I found another car the same way. I am hoping that more people will respond and I might find the dealership that was doing this. If I find a dealership, I might find more info on my car. REgards, Terry- Top

Terry-----
ALL 1968-72 cowl grilles, wiper dores and windshield lower reveal molding (all 3 pieces) were painted. The "bead" on the windshield reveal moldings were unpainted as it was masked when the painting of the molding was done. I feel VERY confident in saying that I don't believe that a single 1968-72 Corvette was shipped from the factory with bare and/or polished examples of the aforementioned components. In all cases, when these are seen, it was a post-production "customizing" effort on the part of someone. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I seriously doubt it. I NEVER saw a new Corvette on the showroom floor during the 68-72 period that had this "treatment". I would be amazed if a new car dealer would do such a thing to a new Corvette. If a customer PURCHASED the car and ASKED to have this done, I'm sure they would do it and charge the customer for the work.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
